Tussenbiesjes & hoekblokjes - Sashings & Corner Stones

Zorgen jullie er wel voor dat jullie voldoende (dezelfde) stof hebben voor de tussenbiesjes en hoekblokjes? Je hebt n.l. best veel stof nodig! Het zou zonde zijn als jullie er halverwege achterkomen dat je niet genoeg hebt... Daarom heb ik voor jullie een berekening gemaakt.

In het patroon van de huisjesquilt, zoals die door mij is getekend, zitten 781 tussenbiesjes en 400 hoekblokjes. Voor één tussenbiesje heb je 3 x 9 cm stof nodig (incl. naad), voor één hoekblokje heb je 3 x 3 cm stof nodig (incl. naad).

Berekening hoeveelheid stof, wanneer je effen stof gebruikt, of een dessin waarbij je niet op patroon knipt.


Tussenbiesjes:
Uit 110 cm stofbreedte haal je 36 tussenbiesjes (110 : 3 = 36).
Als stoflengte heb je dan nodig: 781 : 36 = 22 x 9 = 198 cm stof.
Wil je de binding ook van dezelfde stof maken, dan heb je nog 50 cm extra nodig.

Hoekblokjes:
Uit 110 cm stof haal je 36 hoekblokjes (110 : 3 = 36).
Als stoflengte heb je dan nodig: 400 : 36 = 12 x 3 = 36 cm stof.

Neem voor de zekerheid wat extra stof mocht je verkeerd knippen/snijden.
Knip je je tussenbiesjes/hoekblokjes op patroon, dan heb je méér stof nodig!


Ensure yourself that you have enough (of the same) fabric for the sashings and corner stones. It requires a lot of fabric! It's not nice to find out that you don't have enough... That's why I made a calculation for you.


In the house quilt, as drawn by me in the pattern, there are 781 sashings and 400 corner stones.
For óne sashing you need 3 x 9 cm (1.2 x 3.6 inch) fabric (incl. seam), for óne corner stone you need 3 x 3 cm (1.2 x 1.2 inch) fabric (incl. seam).


Fabric calculation, when you use solid fabric, or a fabric which you don't fussy cut.


Sashings:
A fabric width of 110 cm (44 inch) gives you 36 sashings (110 : 3 = 36) (44 : 1.2 = 36).
As fabric length you need: 781 : 36 = 22 x 9 = 198 cm (80 inch) fabric.
If you wish to make your binding from the same fabric, you need 50 cm (20 inch) more.


Corner Stones:
A fabric width of 110 cm (44 inch) gives you 36 corner stones ( 110 : 3 = 36) (44 : 1.2 = 36).
As fabric length you need: 400 : 36 = 12 x 3 = 36 cm (14.4 inch) fabric.


Be sure to buy some extra fabric.
When you wish to fussy cut your sashings/corner stones you need extra fabric!

De voorbereidingen - The Preparations

Ik ben erg benieuwd hoe het allemaal met jullie gaat. Zijn jullie niet geschrokken van het héle kleine huisjes patroontje? En gaan jullie het met de hand piecen of paper piecen? Twee van mijn quiltvriendinnen, Christel en Anske, gaan de huisjes zelfs op de Engelse manier (omrijgen om papieren malletjes) piecen!

Ik ga met de hand piecen, en ik heb besloten om de quilt te gaan maken in de kleuren van mijn kleine huisjes quilt (dat jullie op de achtergrond van dit blog zien). Ik kan alleen jammer genoeg niet meer genoeg van dezelfde stof voor de sashings vinden, dus mijn sashings worden anders.

I'm very curious how you all doing. Didn't I scare you with that tiny little house pattern? And are you going to piece by hand or machine, or paper piecing? Two of my quilting friends, Christel and Anske, are going to piece the little houses the English way, by using papers.


I'm going to piece by hand, and decided to make my large quilt in the same colours and fabrics as my little house quilt (which you can see in the background of this blog). Unfortunately I can't find enough of the same fabric for the sashings, so my sashings are going to be different.

Ik ben begonnen met het aftekenen van de malletjes op de stof, en heb ontdekt dat precies alle onderdelen van één huisje uit een lapje van 12,5 x 12,5 cm kunnen! Zonder de 'lucht' en het 'raam' dan, want die maak ik altijd van blauw en geel. Maar het is wel handig zo, want nu kan ik die mooie charm lapjes die ik bij haar heb besteld gebruiken voor mijn quilt!

I started marking my templates on the fabrics, and found out that all parts of a little house go exactly out a piece of 5 x 5 inch! Without the 'sky' and 'window', because I'm going to make them blue and yellow. But it's so handy, because now I can use up all my beautifull charm pieces that I've ordered from her!

Alle stukjes knip ik uit en sorteer ik in deze mooie houten doos die ik speciaal daarvoor kocht (bij Action).

I cut out all the pieces and sort them in this beautiful wooden box.

Elk stofje dat ik gebruik plak ik op een kleurkaart, zo kan ik zien of ik een stofje niet dubbel gebruik.

En zo kom ik de kerstdagen wel door, proberen zoveel mogelijk huisjes voor te bereiden vóór 1 Januari.

Het is gelukt! - I did it!

Nou, eigenlijk lukte het eerst niet, we moesten zelfs de helpdesk erbij halen, blijkt dat ik 'maar' naar max. 1000 mensen tegelijk een mail mag sturen. En dan mag ik pas een half uurtje later weer een mail sturen.
Omdat er meer dan 1100 adressen in mijn lijst staan lukte het eerst niet, maar nu is het eerste deel (A t/m L) de deur uit.
Ik krijg al veel reacties terug uit de USA, ja, daar is het nu nog avond, die kunnen al beginnen.

Voor degene bij wie de download niet lukt, je kunt de file openen met Acrobat Reader, dat is hier http://www.adobe.com/ gratis te downloaden.


Nu ga ik mijn pyama aandoen en ga ik naar bed, Dames van de HexaBee ik ben wat later morgen...



Well, at first it didn't worked out, we even had to ask the live chat helpdesk for help. The issue was that I am allowed to send a mail to 'only' max. 1000 people, I didn't knew that. And after half an hour I'm allowed to send another mail.
Because there are over 1100 people on the list it didn't worked, but now the first part (A t/m L) is sent.
I'm getting responce back, mostly from the USA, of course it's evening over there, they can start already.

Ik ben er klaar voor! - I'm ready for it!

Het patroontje is compleet, in vier talen, Nederlands, Engels, Duits en Frans, dus de pret kan bijna beginnen! Er zijn inmiddels al meer dan 1000 quiltsters via mijn mail aangemeld om mee te doen. Ook zie ik net dat er al 250 volgers van dit blog zijn, en er staan al 260 bloggers in de bloglijst (rechts op deze pagina). Nooit gedacht dat dit zo GROOTS zou worden.
Nu maar hopen dat vannacht alles goed gaat met het verzenden van jullie mail met het patroontje. Volgens mijn DH gaat dat gemakkelijk lukken, dus ik vertrouw maar op hem. Maar ik doe al drie nachten bijna geen oog dicht...

In elk geval ga ik morgen het patroontje ook als PDF op dit blog plaatsen, voor alle mensen die na 15 December nog mee willen doen. En voor alle deelnemers die misschien geen mailtje van me ontvangen.

The pattern is completed, in four languages, Dutch, English, German and French, so let the fun (almost) begin. There are already over 1000 quilters registered to join by my mail. I also noticed that we have 250 followers of this blog and about 260 Bloggers in the bloglist (at the right of this page).
Never thought that this would become so BIG.
Hopefully everything will go right tonight, when I'm sending you all the mail with the pattern. But my DH says not to worry, so I'll trust on that. But I'm not sleeping well about this for three nights now...


Anyway, from tomorrow I'll also put the pattern as a PDF file at this blog, for all persons who wish to join after 15 December, and for all those who don't receive a mail back from me.

Opnieuw hulp gevraagd

Wie kan me helpen met het vertalen van de tekst in het patroon? Nederlands en Engels is geen probleem, en met de Duitse vertaling ben ik inmiddels geholpen door Trijnie en Annette.

Ik zoek nog iemand die vandaag (dinsdag) de werkbeschrijving van het patroon voor me wil vertalen van Nederlands naar Frans, het is aardig wat tekst. Misschien één van de Belgische deelneemsters?

Het is inmiddels gelukt met de hulp van Tilly en Nicole, hartelijk dank!
